Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious trophy on fourteen different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to seize a surprise lead. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the dying moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 penalty win.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen years.
