Around fifty automobiles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The substance had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered numerous other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police report initial examinations indicate the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; officials are currently not aware of any harm in relation with the event," they commented.
City officials announced they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A high-ranking representative said the incident made him without words and needed to be solved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing attack five years ago," he posted on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
